Carly’s credit card

Carly’s credit card

Coincidence level: 5/10
Category: Fucking weird

Back in my party days I was a frequenter of a certain arthouse meets burner meets circus party. Think caged aerial dancers, costumed characters, good DJs, smoke machines, lots of acid, lots of free love on site, and there would often be after parties and after-after parties that would inevitably end in an orgy at someone’s loft. Standard fare.

One night a blond girl pulled me aside, bid me join her and two German guys, and we were off to one of their apartments in Brooklyn for the after party. She insisted we become “best friends” – you know, the party version of actual best friends. She was fun though – full of life, obsessed with India and traveling to exotic destinations.

I saw Carly again at another party, and she insisted on buying me a drink, but then disappeared very quickly, leaving her card on the bar counter. I saw her face somewhere on stage dancing, and so I grabbed the card and went through the crowd, trying to find her.

Long story short, I didn’t end up finding her. So I messaged her that I’d found her card and told her she could come pick it up the next day.

She messaged back that she thought she’d lost it and already canceled the card.

I didn’t hear from her again until a week or two later, when I was sitting in the airport in Miami.

“This is the craziest thing,” Carly said, “but I need you to cut up my card if you still have it. After I got a new temporary card, someone somehow committed card fraud on my TEMPORARY CARD.”

It made me look so sketchy, but luckily enough, she had it confirmed it was fraud off her new card. If someone had wanted to frame me for something though, that would’ve been the perfect crime.
